Voices of the Ancient Faith (Carmen Christi)

Experience the raw beauty of first-century worship. Long before instruments were introduced to church services, early believers used only their voices to praise God. This video recreates that ancient tradition using Philippians 2:5-9—a passage believed by historians to be one of the earliest Christian hymns. It is known in Latin as Carmen Christi (Hymn to Christ or Song of Christ).

Carmen Christi (Lyrics directly from Scripture)

[Opening chant - Kenosis]

Christ Jesus
Who, being in very nature God
did not consider equality with God
something to be grasped
but made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant
being made in human likeness

[Descent - Humiliation]

And being found in appearance as a man
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death
even death on a cross

[Exaltation - Rising hymn]

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name
that is above every name
that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow

[Proclamation - Universal confession]

in heaven and on earth
and under the earth
and every tongue acknowledge
that Jesus Christ is Lord
to the glory of God the Father
to the glory of God the Father

Do You Want to Know Him?
If you want to know Jesus personally, you can. It all begins when you repent and believe in Jesus.  Do you know what God's Word, the Bible says?

“Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” (Mar 1:14b-15).  He preached that we must repent and believe.

Please see my explanation of this in my post called "Do You Want to Know Jesus?"
